World’s Largest Salmon BBQ
What does 3,000 pounds of salmon, 100 cases of fresh corn and 900 loaves of bread mean to you???? Can’t figure it out? Does it help to add 50 gallons of special marinade, barrels of green salad, cold beer, wine and soft drinks? If that isn’t enough of a hint how about the addition of Judges, City Council members, and representatives from almost every service club on the coast as well live music? No answer yet? One more clue and you should be able to guess. This incredible event could not happen without the help of a multitude of local businesses all working together in Noyo Harbor on Saturday, July 7. It is an event that has been listed in the Library of Congress Bicentennial “Local Legacies.” That’s right, it’s the 36th Annual Salmon Restoration Association (SRA) Salmon BBQ!!
This year tickets for the event can be purchased at Harvest Market in Ft Bragg or at www.salmonrestoration.org. The cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children under 12. Tickets for the full dinner of salmon, corn, salad and French bread can also be purchased at the event. Specially designed tee shirts, aprons and hats will also be available for sale. Free parking for the day is available on the west side of Highway 1 near the College of the Redwoods (watch for signs) and a shuttle bus will be transporting people from the parking area to the harbor.
If you are a sport fisherman and can donate a salmon for the BBQ, please call Mike Williamson at Redwood Liquors (707-964-9334). Every salmon donated means one less the Association will have to purchase and more money will go toward raising salmon at Hollow Tree Creek Fish Hatchery. Additionally, SRA welcomes volunteers for the day. There is plenty to do and your time will be greatly appreciated. So join in and help put on the World’s Largest Salmon BBQ. If you can spare a few hours to help, call Teresa Dimeola (707-964-8300). For information about the BBQ, call 707-962-0548.
While you are at the BBQ visit our “Salmon Wall” and educational displays. The “Wall” is a pictorial display of the Hollow Tree Creek Fish Hatchery and the work being done to help raise Chinook salmon for the restoration of our once abundant salmon resource. We hope you will take the time to view the displays and see where the proceeds from the BBQ are used. Thanks to the ticket holders, community, clubs and businesses that continue to come out in support of this event.
See you at the 36th Annual, World’s Largest Salmon BBQ on Saturday July 7 serving dinner from 11 am to 6pm. FOER’s Fish Tent will be there too!
